Time Gangsters by Berin L. Stephens
TIME GANGSTERS opens with a gangster standing over Billy’s bed asking where Marlow is. Little does he know that the same gangster paid a visit to his cousin Danny’s house next door in search of coin’s. But they aren’t your normal coins the gangster is in search of; the coins he’s in search of contain a special kind of magic. And the gangster will stop at nothing to find them.
At first, Billy and Danny don’t really get along. They even have a sort of prank war going on between the two of them. But when Billy reveals that a gangster broke into his room the night prior, Danny finds herself shocked. She thought she’d imagined the gangster in her room, but with Billy’s story, she begins to think otherwise. In order to stop the gangster from seizing the power of the coins, Billy and Danny will need to work together.
Talk about a fun story! I wasn’t entirely sure what to make of TIME GANGSTERS at first. I actually hadn’t even heard of it until Cedar Fort contacted me about the blog tour. I will say this: if you’re looking for a fun middle grade read, TIME GANGSTERS is your book.

{Tour Stop} Review + Giveaway: “Bridger” by Megan Curd

My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars
I wasn’t sure what to expect going into “Bridger”. I just wasn’t sure if I would like it. So, when I saw that A Tale of Many Reviews was putting together a book tour for “Bridger”, I decided to give it a go. And I’m glad that I did. “Bridger” is a wonderful debut and a wonderful start to a series.
With the emotional beginning, in which Ashlyn struggles to deal with her father’s death, to the moment when Memaw explains just how special Ashlyn is, or that final moment in which Ashlyn decides to become the Bridger – “Bridger” will keep you wanting to turn the pages (or you know, hitting the next page button on your e-readers).
Megan Curd takes a world that we’re familiar with (through other stories), but manages to make it her own. Not to mention the fact that she manages to transition between the multiple settings wonderfully, something most authors are unable to do.
The characters are wonderful, especially Ashlyn. She’s a strong, witty character, devoted to her family (and saving her brother). And Memaw is just awesome. Seriously.
In all honesty, “Bridger” is a book worth checking out. I loved it.

With most sequels, they usually fail to live up to their predecessors. “Weaving Destiny”, however, outshines “The Soulkeepers” and that isn’t a bad thing. While “The Soulkeepers” focused on Jacob: his struggle to adapt to life in Paris, Illinois, his fight to find his mother, and his new found power, “Weaving Destiny” focuses on Malini. During that final battle in “The Soulkeepers”, you can sense there’s something special about Malini. Spoiler: The fact that the Watcher’s were unable to see her until she brought attention to herself was enough to guess she wasn’t a normal human being.
But it isn’t just her new power that she has to struggle with. She believed that Jacob was her destiny, but what if this isn’t something she wants? With Dane, a former bully, and Mara, a new Soulkeeper in town, there’s more to the story than just Malini’s struggle to accept her new life. Malini is a strong character. She’s confident and able to look past the negative when we first meet her in “The Soulkeepers”, but everyone has a breaking point and Malini seems to reach hers in “Weaving Destiny”. Not only is she finding herself jealous of Mara, but she also finds herself questioning if this life – a life as one of them (avoiding spoilers as best I can) – is what she really wants. But it’s hard for life to return to normal after everything she’s seen in Nod.
The ending to the story finds Malini making her choice. It may have been expected, but Malini needed to be able to reach that conclusion on her own, so I felt it was a rather perfect ending.
If you haven’t yet read “The Soulkeepers”, get to it. Ching has crafted a wonderful tale of good vs. evil. I can’t wait for the next installment to see where the story goes from here!
